“Dreams Awake” just begins the journey … one only you can finish for yourself
When this film was originally conceived it was conceived as more than just a film. I know I’ve mentioned this before, and a few of you have asked me what I specifically mean. I’ve tried to get into that a bit, but it usually hasn’t been easy to articulate. Part of that is because of my own limitations, and part of that is the shifting media landscape.
In the very beginning of this whole process I wasn’t entirely sure how this would all play out. It was more of a gut feeling that the film’s journey would be more than what the original film would or could ever be. Now with the growing possibilities of transmedia and with the open-ended questions that the film presents, we’ve seen a clearer avenue towards this original goal. And it seems very exciting indeed. The downside is that you’ve had to wait longer for the film’s release, but it has all been for a good cause. We are trying to present an experience that goes beyond watching a film. I know, I know, what does that really mean?
I’m here today to begin spelling that out a little better, so please bear with me. However, as an aside, I don’t think this will be any clearer than when you actually see the film and actually ‘participate’ in the ‘extras.’ I feel only then will you really get into it and be able to have some fun with it. Anyway, I digress.
I will not go into what ‘Transmedia’ is here, as you can do an online search and get plenty of info about it. I’ve previously talked about it some and offered up some examples, but each project is unique in what these extra elements will entail. It essentially involves a more complete world beyond where the feature film resides, outside the typical 90-120 minute narrative.
We will have a few other gifts that you will get when you purchase the film, but the transmedia slice is by far the most extensive one. This transmedia world will mostly live online, through a portal of connected websites and social media platforms. They will offer an ongoing journey through some of the metaphysical issues and questions presented by the film, submit pathways of discussion and debate, and finally expound on possible answers and future travels. Basically this transmedia portal will try to stage and communicate some future potentials and possibilities for any and all of you to explore. A catalyst, if you will, for more possibilities towards your own personal inner quest. And yes, an extra gift from the film to you. But more importantly, a gift you can continually give yourself, as we will be adding new content over the long haul.
(FYI, we’ve also redone the Way To Go Media company website with a long overdue overhaul. So, check it out!)
